April 22, 2015 is Earth Day!

Saleem communing with Mother Earth
I'm excited to spend Earth Day outside and so is Saleem!

There are also plenty of local events to participate in:

Strathcona County is hosting a free screening of the movie "Just Eat It" and an information session about how organic waste is handled in the county on April 22nd.

The City of Edmonton, and Earth's General Store are hosting all kinds of events on the weekend, April 26 and 27th.  I hear my favorite vegan food truck Sailin' On is going to be there!

Online, you can visit the David Suzuki Foundation and enter contests to win prizes from the Queen of Green and IKEA Canada.

Even Value Village is getting on board, offering double stamps for discounts in-store when you donate your pre-loved goods on Wednesday, April 22nd.

How will you be spending Earth Day?

Farewell Yoga for Today

Vibhuti or Sacred Ash, the holy remains of a Fire Puja
After 15 years of teaching classes, workshops and teacher training at Yoga for Today in Sherwood Park, its time for me to move on!

Warm hugs and heartfelt thanks to all of the yogis and yoginis I've met, shared with, and learned from over the years!  You are an ongoing inspiration to me, and I'm so grateful for your support, encouragement, and companionship on the Path.

I look forward to connecting with you at other events and locations!  Om Shanti!  Namaste!

Grandmothers to Grandmothers

Sherwood Park Yogini, Candice is about to embark on an amazing trip with the Stephen Lewis Foundation to meet with grassroots community groups who work on the frontlines of the AIDS pandemic in Africa!

As part of the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign Candice will see first hand what its like for African Grandmothers who have stepped up to care for millions of orphaned children, sometimes as many as ten to fifteen in one household!

She will bear witness to the love, courage and resilience that allows these Grandmothers to act as caregivers, leaders and advocates in the survival and education of Africa's children as well as the many challenges they face to do so.

If you, or anyone you know would like to donate Aeroplan points to this worthy cause, it would be much appreciated by Candice, by the Stephen Lewis Foundation, and by our brothers, sisters, grandmothers and grandchildren in Africa.

Candice, best wishes for a healthy, safe,  heart and eye opening journey!  Om Trayambakam!

We look forward to hearing about it when you return!

The Artful Yogis and the Festival of Trees

This gorgeous wreath, hand-felted by our crafty karma yoga community won the People's Choice second prize at Sherwood Park's "Festival of Trees" last weekend!

Not only was it great fun to create (wow, the spinoffs from Raja Yoga Summer Camp are blowing my mind!), but it helped raise money for the Volunteer Information Service!

Thanks to all the "Artful Yogis" who participated, and everyone who attended and voted for our "Heart-felt" creation!

Also a big thanks to Yoga for Today for sponsoring the wreath and posting the information on their Facebook page!
